Douglas N. McConnell, Owner and Chief Operating Officer

Doug's passion for the aviation industry began over three decades ago when he secured his first job at Air Central as a line technician.  He was quickly promoted to a position that involved coordinating charters for a 135 operation.  Doug then moved on to Midwest Air Charter taking on the position of Manager for the FBO.  He was responsible for the safe operation of over 150 flights each day.

After Midwest was purchased by Airborne Express, Doug relocated to Wilmington, OH, to assume his new position of Airport Manager.  His responsibilities included not only the operation of Airborne, but also the fueling operations and facilities at the airport.

In the early 1980's, he accepted a position with Wright Airlines, a 121 carrier, as Director of Properties.  He was responsible for the Airline's facilities, fueling and handling requirements.  Doug was promoted to Vice President of Properties and Outside Services after Wright purchased Aeromech Airlines out of Clarksburg, WV.  In addition to his former responsibilities, he was also in charge of developing additional outside business for the company.

In 1986, he was a co-founder of Aviation Ground Service International which provided airline handling services in 15 U.S. locations.  In 1990 Doug founded Global Ground Services and merged AGSI into this newly formed company.  During his leadership tenure, Doug developed this company by providing handling services for U.S. and International carriers, operating in over 17 airports throughout the U.S. with an employee base of approximately 1,000, along with $35 million in sales.

Global Ground Services was sold to an international firm in the early part of 2000.  After a brief retirement, Doug re-entered the industry and bought an interest in Johnston Aviation.  Currently, Johnston Aviation manages the Lorain County Airport and operates the FBO.  Doug also started a new company called DougMac Air Limited.  DougMac is a charter broker, as well as a flight support and management consulting company.

Doug continues to live his passion by providing excellent service with a team of well qualified professionals.
